Who are we?
I'm a local physician on Oahu and working on the front lines of the coronavirus pandemic. As the crisis grows, there is, and will likely continue to be a shortage of much needed personal protective equipment (PPE). While hospitals have the supplies they need right now, we don't know how long they will last, especially if current measures to control the disease don't work. I am trying to organize a grass roots movement of making masks for our healthcare workers should there come a time when they are needed.
What are we looking for?
We are looking for handmade masks to provide to our local hospitals and nursing homes should they be needed. The designs and style are up to you. Please see our How to Videos page to see what type of mask you think you will be able to sew with the supplies you have. Also check out our Research page to see the current data on how effective these homemade masks are compared to professional surgical masks.
How do we get you the masks we've made?
We are working on that process as we speak. Please check back for details. Please check our Where to Donate page for more information.
How will the masks be distributed?
Currently we are working to see which facilities will let staff utilize the masks and what the need is. Please check back for more details.
What if we don't end up needing the masks?
If all of these drastic protective measures enacted by the state work and the masks are not needed, we would love it if the masks could be donating to areas of the country that need them or donate them to a third world country.
